Introduction

The Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarships are provided by the Australian Government Department of Education and administered by the University of Melbourne.

Under the Student Assistance Act, you cannot receive scholarships from two or more Commonwealth Departments for the same purpose.

This form seeks your confirmation whether you receive a scholarship from the Department of Human Service or the Department of Veterans' Affairs.

When awarding the Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarships, the University gives priority to students from remote or regional areas and students who are financially disadvantaged (i.e. are in receipt of Centrelink benefits)

If you receive a Student Start-Up Loan from the Department of Human Services or a Student Start-up Scholarship from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, you cannot receive an Indigenous Commonwealth Education Cost Scholarship.

Centrelink verification services

I authorise:

  • the University of Melbourne to use Centrelink Confirmation eServices to perform a Centrelink enquiry of my customer details and concession card status in order to enable the University to determine if I qualify for a concession, rebate or service.

  • Services Australia to provide the results of that enquiry to the University of Melbourne.

I understand that:

  • Services Australia will disclose personal information to the University of Melbourne including my name, address, payment type and payment status to confirm my eligibility for the Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarship.

  • This consent, once signed electronically by selecting 'I agree' below and submitting this application, remains valid while I have applied for or receive the Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarshipunless I withdraw it by contacting the University of Melbourne or Services Australia.

  • I can get proof of my details from Services Australia and provide it to the University of Melbourne so they can determine my eligibility for the Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarship.

  • If I withdraw my consent or dont alternatively provide proof of my circumstances or details, I may not be eligible for the Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarshipprovided by the University of Melbourne.
