Introduction

The Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) has been created by the Australian Government to assist students manage the costs associated with undertaking a mandatory placement (also known as a practicum) as part of a higher education course in teaching, nursing, and social work.

Before you complete this application form, please read the eligibility criteria. See: Commonwealth Prac Payment

As part of this application, you must either:

  • provide evidence that you are receiving Commonwealth Income Support payments, or
  • provide evidence that you worked at least 60 hours during the four-week period prior to submitting this application or starting your placement.

If you were unable to work 60 hours during that four-week period due to exceptional circumstances, you must provide documentation as evidence that these circumstances were beyond your control.

You can be considered for the Commonwealth Prac Payment for a practical placement that you commenced last year, provided you submit this application within six months from commencement of the placement, and before you completed your course.

If you wish to be considered for the Commonwealth Prac Payment for a practical placement in 2027, please wait until the 2027 application round opens in December.
